Peter HenKal lives by the powerful axiom, “Life is not a rehearsal; it’s the real thing—you only get one shot at it.” His life story reflects that philosophy in every chapter, each one marked by courage, reinvention, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Born amidst the devastation of war-torn Berlin, Germany in 1944, Peter came into a world still reeling from conflict and uncertainty. At the age of 20, he made a bold move—emigrating to South Africa to forge a new path. Over the next 28 years, he established himself in the industrial sector, building a dynamic career in steel construction, where he played a key role in the development of oil refineries and sugar mills. His professional journey later saw him rise to senior management positions in both the plastics and tyre industries, where his leadership and vision left a lasting impact.

At 40, Peter’s entrepreneurial spirit took flight. He founded a pioneering business centered around a plantable concrete retaining wall system—an innovation that revolutionized the way concrete was used in South African landscaping and construction. After successfully growing and eventually selling the company, Peter was finally free to pursue his lifelong passions.

This next chapter led him into the world of hospitality, where he retrained as a Chef, Professional Butler, and Hospitality Trainer. Over the course of a remarkable 25-year global career, Peter worked across four continents, enriching his life with cultural diversity and the opportunity to share his expertise with people from all walks of life.

Now back in South Africa and in his mid-70s, Peter has embraced yet another evolution—writing. Reflective and forward-thinking, he has turned his attention to documenting his life experiences while also exploring the cutting-edge developments in artificial intelligence and robotics that are shaping the 21st century. Ever curious and always engaged, Peter continues to live life with the same vitality and purpose that has defined his extraordinary journey.
