Welcome to the next chapter of Peter HenKal's storytelling journey.
Hello, I’m Peter HenKal, the author of The Fiery History of the Zuurberg Mountain Village my latest release.
Having spent our Honeymoon and many memorable extended weekends in the Inn it still came as a bit of a surprise to me when Henri Alant, the current owner of ZMV, suggested I should write about the Inn's history dating back over 175 years.
As my research pulled me deeper and deeper into the challenges that had to be faced by wagoneers seeking a brief stop at the Inn.
For over 100 years the Imm was in the centre of border dispute wars between Trek Boere, nomad Dutch farmers, British settlers and the indigenous, advancing Xhosa tribes.
Not to mention the raging Bushfires that destroyed the accommodation buildings surrounding the main structure of the Inn, which stood the test of time.
This book is of interest to Historians of the Eastern Cape, as well the thousands of tourists to the Zuurberg and the Greater Addo National Elephant Park.
